'The food you see in the fridge is rationing like WW1' The harsh reality of living below the poverty line

A man, who helps provide free or heavily-subsidised services to help keep people warm, has documented what it is like for families living below the poverty line. James Anderson said he is 'appalled' at the way a mum-of-two is being forced to live, as the cost of living crisis deepens.

James went to see Katie and her two children, aged four and five, at their rented flat. He said the family, who agreed to be pictured , can't afford gas, have minimal electricity, no carpet, not heating or hot water and no functioning oven.

He compared the contents of their fridge to war rationing as he pictured a half open tin of chopped tomatoes, baked beans, and 50p supermarket butter spread, the Manchester Evening News reports. On the same weekend that the nation came together to celebrate the Queen's jubilee, the Pride of Manchester winner said he was disgraced to see that families' in Britain can be allowed to live this way.
