The floating rooms you can stay in just an hour from Greater Manchester

Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway for a special occasion or you’re craving a change of scenery for a couple of days, a weekend away is a chance to relax and unwind. It's a time to escape your responsibilities for a short while and gives you something to look forward to.

Tucked away in the Cheshire countryside, around an hour’s drive from Greater Manchester is Tattenhall Marina, located on the Shropshire Union Canal. It has 300 berths and looks out on miles of stunning scenery.

But you don’t have to have a barge to spend the night at Tattenhall Marina as the site has six floating pods available for stays. They’re perfect if you’re looking for a rural escape with a twist.

The pods all feature a contemporary design with glass fronts and a decked area where you can sit and look out onto the marina. Inside is a double bedroom, bathroom and a fully-equipped kitchenette with everything you’d need for a short break.

There’s a living area with a sofa bed and a smart TV, so when night falls you can snuggle up and watch a film. The pods sleep two adults, as well as two children and there’s even dog-friendly pods available so you don’t have to leave your four-legged friend at home.

If you’re booking for a special occasion it can be arranged to send Prosecco, beers or other luxury items to your pod for your arrival. For those who want to fully-chill out (and don’t want to lift a finger) you can enjoy a full English breakfast, light bites and meals at the Boathouse Cafe Bar.

Staying right on the water can leave you feeling incredibly relaxed and you may be tempted to spend the day with your feet up in the pod and looking out onto the water. But if you are feeling adventurous there’s plenty to do nearby.

Half an hour’s walk away is the pretty village of Tattenhall, while Beeston Castle is less than 15 minutes drive away. Chester is around a 20 minute drive away. Alternatively you can enjoy dozens of walking and cycling trails in the surrounding area.
