Edinburgh has one of the best restaurant scenes in the UK with some incredible eateries regularly being recognised with top awards.
Influential restaurant review and booking website SquareMeal has just released its top 100 for around the UK for 2023 and some of the capital's top eateries have made it onto the shortlist.
Four Edinburgh favourites are highlighted with fine-dining specialists Fhior, local favourite The Palmerston, tasting menu experts Condita and Roberta Hall-McCarron’s second restaurant Eleanore all making it into the top 100.
Speaking about the list, a spokesperson for SquareMeal said: "In order to make a place on the list, each restaurant had to offer more than just a good meal. It had to provide guests with an exceptional all-round experience. From gorgeous interiors, top-class wine lists and stunning views through to exemplary service and sustainability commitments, we weighed up the whole package.

"When we say this list is months in the making, we really mean it. We take huge care and pride in making sure only the very best in the industry find a place on the list, and have eaten at hundreds of restaurants over the past 12 months to whittle down the winners."
The Edinburgh entries in SquareMeal's top UK 100 for 2023:
Fhior, Broughton Street, Bonnington
SquareMeal said: "Just north of Edinburgh’s city centre you will find Fhior (which is Gaelic for true). Opened in 2018 by couple Scott and Laura Smith, this family-run restaurant promises local produce on the menu along with small-batch natural wines."
The Palmerston, Palmerston Place
SquareMeal said: "You won’t see the same dish twice even if you are a regular at The Palmerston. The cosy neighbourhood spot meticulously sources ingredients from local farmers, growers and fishermen."
Condita, Salisbury Place, Newington
SquareMeal said: "A culinary force to be reckoned with, Condita is a leading light of Edinburgh’s restaurant scene where guests have no autonomy over what they eat. Instead, expect a three-hour-long surprise tasting menu for £140."
Eleanore, Albert Place, Leith
SquareMeal said: "Roberta Hall-McCarron’s second restaurant has smashed all expectations. We love the soothing interiors almost as much as we love Hall-McCarron’s delicious, inventive cooking."
And it's not just Edinburgh that was recognised, other restaurants not too far from the city recognised by SquareMeal include 17th-century pub and restaurant The Kinneuchar Inn in Kilconquhar, the new Glenturret Lalique Crieff at Glenturret Distillery in Perthshire and of course, widely considered to be Scotland's best restaurant, the famous Restaurant Andrew Fairlie.
