The 'fairytale' Scottish castles you can stay in to feel like royalty

With The Crown returning for its fifth season, many viewers will likely be wondering what it is like to live as a royal. While being crowned King or Queen may not be possible, living like a monarch—at least for a little while—certainly is.

Holiday letting agency holidaycottages.co.uk has shared two "incredible" castles and estates you can stay in to feel like royalty. There's nothing like a bit of luxury now and then, and both of these properties certainly offer that.

With winter coming up, it's the perfect time to book a cost getaway. While these properties are grand and opulent, they're also very homely — and perfect for families.

Kinnairdy Castle is found in Huntly in the heart of Aberdeenshire and sleeps eight guests in its four grand bedrooms. Highlights of the property include its stained-glass windows and "miles of beautiful river walks".

Parts of the castle date back to the 14th and 15th centuries with many original features intact, but it's still "homely and cosy", making it perfect for a stay with the family. There's even a large courtyard and garden area with seating and a BBQ, as well plenty of areas for children to play.

The listing states: "A much-loved area for fishing, this beautiful area is famous for the River Deveron and its salmon and trout (it holds the record for the heaviest fly-caught salmon in the UK). The castle sits on 450 acres with two salmon fishing beats (permits that can be arranged with the owner) - a great location for fishermen.

"Kinnairdy Castle is a tower house with parts dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries. The living areas are homely and cosy but at the same time, boast many of the original features including the stained-glass windows and vaulted ceiling in the dining room, giving it a real castle dining experience."

This stunning four-bedroom, three-bathroom property is located two miles away from the town of Largs on the Firth of Clyde. Its key features include a tennis court, a sauna, and "magical gardens with a hot tub that overlooks the countryside".

The castle dates back to the 14th century, and has since been updated to provide a "quirky yet luxurious space for many to enjoy". Rooms include a "beautifully finished" kitchen and dining space and two sitting rooms, one of which comes with a "cosy wood burner for the cooler evenings".

The listing states: "Magical, luxurious and truly unique - this restored castle is simply stunning and sure to provide an unforgettable getaway with a group of family or friends. The countryside location of this property means that not only is the interior spectacular, but the surroundings are wonderful too.
