A week later we will enjoy yet another Bank Holiday on Monday, May 8, due to the King’s coronation which will actually takes place two days earlier on Saturday, May 6. Tens of thousands of street parties are expected to be staged as the King is officially crowned monarch and Camilla crowned Queen Consort, while people are also urged to come together for the Coronation Big Lunch the following day (Sunday, May 7).
The final bank holiday in May will then be the spring bank holiday, which will take place on Monday, May 29. After five bank holidays in less than two months, there will only be another three for the remainder of 2023 - one in August (28th) and two in December (25th and 26th).
In Scotland, some people will only have four bank holidays between now and the end of May, because Easter Monday is not a nationwide bank holiday north of the border. However, some councils claim it as such because individual local authorities have powers to make certain days of the year public holiday days if they so wish.
