It's hard to imagine now, but back in the 1970s, there were alarmingly few places where same sex couples could meet up and share a drink - but there was at least one Edinburgh pub that made a huge effort to buck the trend.
Rose Street's Kenilworth pub was Edinburgh's 'original gay bar' and among a select band of boozers that extended a warm welcome to the capital's gay community prior to the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act of 1980 coming into effect.
The popular city centre haunt was well-known as a place where homosexual men and women in the city could meet up and mingle in an era when being openly gay could technically see you fined and even imprisoned.
