'The Eagle has Landed' author Henry Patterson dies

Author Henry Patterson, who is published under his pen name of Jack Higgins, has died. He was 92. Patterson's publisher announced that the author died at his home on the Channel Island of Jersey, reports 'Deadline'.

Born in Newcastle, Patterson worked initially as a teacher before penning novels in his spare time. In a career spanning roughly 60 years, Patterson wrote 85 novels between 1959 and 2017, selling more than 250 million books over the course of his career.

His first published novel was 'Sad Wind from the Sea' with his final book being 'The Midnight Bell'.

Patterson was best-known for his thriller 'The Eagle has Landed', which was published in 1975 and it sold some 50 million copies. The story revolves around a Nazi plot to kidnap Winston Churchill during World War II. The book was adapted into a film which was directed by John Sturges and it featured actors Robert Duvall, Donald Sutherland and Michael Caine.

The author is survived by his wife Denise and four children from his first marriage, namely - Sarah, Ruth, Sean, and Hannah.
