‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ renewed for third season but reformatted in half-hour segments

“The Drew Barrymore Show” will get to see another day next fall — but not in its existing format.

The eponymous daytime chatfest, hosted by the Golden Globe Award-winning actress and lifestyle entrepreneur, has been picked up for a third season.

CBS Media Ventures announced Friday that the series will also be produced as two half-hour episodes that can run back-to-back or be split up to air in separate time periods for stations nationwide.

Barrymore, who also executive produces the show, shared a video of herself screaming in excitement at the news of the renewal on Instagram Friday.

“I am honored and grateful but I also want to take this show higher and continue to innovate and be a game-changer in the daytime space,” she said in an official statement. “Rising to the occasion of finding people in the diverse way they watch is what I want to challenge myself with. Our show wants to be a bright spot not a blind spot and we just want to make people feel good. And I thank all the people who helped us get here.”

Some stations owned by media powerhouse ViacomCBS will launch local newscasts to lead in to first half-hour of the newly reformatted show.

“Stations have always had a finite amount of shelf space, so we’re evolving the syndication model to meet the needs of our partners,” CBS Media Ventures president Steve LoCascio explained. “We could not be happier to continue our relationship with CBS Stations and our other station partners to deliver more of The Drew Barrymore Show through this innovative new idea.”

“The Drew Barrymore Show” launched on Sept. 14, 2020. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the hour-long talk show averaged nearly 740,000 daily viewers –paling in comparison to the top daytime talk shows “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and “Dr. Phil,” which pull in 2.3 million to 2.5 million viewers.
