The DNA evidence that might finally enable police to find Helen Kane’s killer

After 52 years, the family of Helen Kane have never been given answers surrounding her murder.

In the five decades since her body was found on a building site, no one has ever been charged with her murder - and no new leads have provided the killer’s identity. In 2020, a spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We have not given up on catching her killer and want to offer reassurance to Helen’s family that any new information will be thoroughly investigated.”

Police also confirmed that a number of items still remain in their storage, including items found on or close to the victim’s body. With advances in forensic science and the retention of these items, there is hope that justice could be delivered.
