The difference 'quality' January transfers can make to Nottingham Forest's promotion push

Defender Max Lowe believes the quality additions Nottingham Forest made in the January transfer window can make a difference in their promotion push.

Keinan Davis, Steve Cook and Sam Surridge have all shown plenty of promise since joining the Reds last month, while Richie Laryea and Jonathan Panzo are still waiting to make their debuts.

Davis and Cook have become mainstays of the starting XI, and Surridge has looked bright in his three substitute appearances so far - winning a penalty against Blackburn Rovers and helping to set up the last-minute equaliser against Stoke City on Saturday.

Lowe has also become a key player, having joined Forest on loan from Sheffield United in the summer, playing a big part in their transformation of fortunes under Steve Cooper.

And as the Reds target a top six finish come May, he is confident the club have the necessary strength in depth to get them there.

“They’ve settled in really well. They’ve taken to the changing room really well and they’ve been really good in training,” Lowe said of the January signings.

“It’s a welcoming changing room anyway - we’ve got some good lads in there. We try to make it as easy as possible for the new lads, because I know what it was like at the start of the season, coming in. It isn’t easy, you are nervous. But they have settled in really well.

“They’ve got in and amongst it with the lads. They’ve not shied away or anything, so they’ve tried to get into it straight away.

“They’ve been training really well.

“I feel like we’ve got some real quality in the squad. It’s a strong squad, so it’s only going to benefit us as a team.

“They can definitely make a difference.”

Forest also have a fair few players capable of playing in different positions, including Jack Colback, who filled in at left-back while Lowe was out injured.

“With me being out, Jack stepped in and did really well at left wing-back. That then gives opportunities for people in midfield,” said the 24-year-old.

“You need that squad togetherness because anyone can get thrown in at any time; you have to be ready.

“The gaffer is really good at making sure the players are well aware of that as well.”
