All right everyone! Gird your loins — The Devil Wears Prada is getting a sequel. It’s been nearly 18 years since the modern classic first hit our screens and it’s finally time to find out what our favourite fashionistas have been doing in that time.
The good news is that the film’s original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, is already in talks with Disney and is sure to deliver quality lines, unforgettable quotes and more Chanel boots than any one person needs.
The not-so-good news is that none of the original cast are definitely set to return for the highly-anticipated next chapter. Did Demarchelier ever confirm? We’ll have to wait and see.
What we do know is that the storyline will be putting a spotlight on modern publishing, with Miranda Priestly navigating a world of declining sales in which advertisers have changed the way they work with print publications.
Meanwhile Emily Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, is now a successful executive at a luxury goods firm (think LVMH meets Kering) who, in a twist of fate, holds all the power over her former boss.
As one of the biggest smash hits of the Noughties, The Devil Wears Prada landed Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy and designer Patricia Field was Oscar-nominated for the costume design.
Since then, the film’s top cast have teased fans with quasi-reunions, most recently when the leading trio presented best actor in a comedy series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards back in February.
Now that a continuation of the glamorous saga is officially in the works, let’s take a look at where the cast are now, what they’ve been up to and how likely they are to reprise their roles.
Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Miranda Priestly was exquisite. Her cutting remarks and carefully curated expressions are enough to make anyone quiver in their Jimmy Choos — especially during that monologue about cerulean gowns. Since starring in the Noughties flick, Streep has burnished her CV with a number of successful films, both comedy and drama.
Some media outlets have already claimed that the award-winning actress is set to pick back up where she left off as the queen of mean, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed. It’s a hard one to predict, as although she is going strong in her acting career with no signs of slowing, this will be the first proper sequel that she’s agreed to, having only appeared in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again for a few brief minutes.
Anne Hathaway

Need to know: Anne Hathaway has always emphatically ruled out a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada
Unless she has some hideous skirt convention to go to, Anne Hathaway reprising her role as Andy Sachs is a must. After all, a million girls would kill for her job. Hathaway has reunited with co-star Emily Blunt a couple of times since arguing over who gets to go to Paris, most notably when they sat down together for Variety’s Actors on Actors series.
Hathaway has continued to be a fun and likeable rom-com actress, giving us enjoyable romps like Bride Wars and Valentine’s Day. She has also impressed in dramatic roles, shining in blockbusters like Interstellar and The Dark Knight Rises.
Perhaps her biggest performance since playing the magazine assistant has been in Les Misérables, landing her an Oscar for best supporting actress.
Considering she told Entertainment Tonight back in 2022 that a sequel to the much-loved film was definitely never going to happen, it would be surprising to see her back as the reluctant fashionista Andrea Sachs. The current synopsis doesn’t mention Andy’s character, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Stanley Tucci
Age then: 46

Need to know: Stanley Tucci, now a TV food show host, married co-star Emily Blunt’s sister and would love to open his own Italian restaurant
Tucci’s tough yet lovable character, Nigel Kipling, acts as a cautionary tale for what happens when you prioritise someone else’s success over your own. Film fans got some sense of closure, however, after Tucci and Streep reunited to play husband and wife Julia and Paul Child in the 2009 film Julie & Julia.
Tucci’s original character from The Devil Wears Prada isn’t mentioned in the sequel’s teaser, so it’s unclear whether his character will get the fairytale ending he always deserved.
Since the original film, Tucci has starred in several box office hits, and is perhaps now most recognisable for his role as Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games franchise.
Keeping it in the family, The Devil Wears Prada isn’t Tucci’s only connection to co-star Emily Blunt. In 2012 he married Blunt’s sister, Felicity, after getting to know each other at the wedding of her sister to fellow actor John Krasinski.
Tucci is also passionate about his Italian heritage, showcasing his love for Italian food in his TV series Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.

Need to know: Emily Blunt is married to fellow Hollywood A-lister John Krasinski and after The Devil Wears Prada launched her career, she’s become one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood.
The long-suffering character, Emily Charlton, looks to finally be enjoying success if the sneak peek of the film’s sequel is anything to go by. After missing out on the legendary Paris trip due to being an “incubus of viral plague”, it’s sure to be a relief for fans to see her holding all the cards in the upcoming film.
The Devil Wears Prada was Emily Blunt’s breakthrough role, and in the years since the British actress’ career has gone stratospheric, starring in cute romcoms like The Five-Year Engagement as well as powerful dramas like The Girl on the Train. She’s now perhaps best known for her role in post-apocalyptic horror film A Quiet Place and its sequel, alongside her husband Krasinski.
It seems highly likely that Blunt will reprise her role, with some media outlets already reporting on her return. With such a delicious reversal of fates with her former boss, who could resist?
Adrian Grenier

Need to know: Since appearing in The Devil Wears Prada, Adrian Grenier has pursued multiple passions, including music and philanthropy.
Adrian Grenier is perhaps most recognisable to many people as Andy’s boyfriend, Nate, in The Devil Wears Prada. Yes, the toxic boyfriend who resented her for achieving success in her career and criticised her for changing her appearance.
As well as appearing in various films, Grenier found success in the TV show Entourage as well as the Netflix series Clickbait.
When he’s not acting, Grenier can be found in his music studio in New York City and in 2010 founded the lifestyle brand SHFT, which promotes sustainability through film, design, art and culture.
He hasn’t appeared on screen since 2021, and if he does reprise his role as Nate, he’d have a lot of disapproving fans to answer to.
Simon Baker

The Australian actor plays Christian Thompson, who whisks Andy off her feet in Paris and has a hand in almost destroying Miranda Priestly’s career. He wasn’t a total villain though, as he played a vital role in helping Andy get that unpublished Harry Potter manuscript for Priestly’s twins.
Baker has acted in several films, but is best known for playing Patrick Jane in The Mentalist from 2008 to 2015. Will he return to our screens in The Devil Wears Prada sequel? The fashion jury’s out on that one.
Daniel Sunjata

Need to know: Daniel Sunjata has found success on the small screen, starring in TV series such as Rescue Me, Grey’s Anatomy and Graceland
Daniel Sunjata plays burgeoning fashion designer James Holt, whose designs at one point get the “catastrophic” pursed lips from Miranda Priestly. Since then, Sunjata has had supporting roles in a handful of successful films, including the Matthew McConaughey romcom Ghosts of Girlfriends Past and The Dark Knight Rises.
He’s found most success on television, and some fans may recognise him as Nurse Eli in Grey’s Anatomy or FBI agent Paul Briggs in Graceland. He’s appeared in a smattering of other shows, with eagle-eyed viewers perhaps recognising him as Danny in Manifest or popping up in an episode of 30 Rock. It would be fun to see him reprise his role in the sequel of The Devil Wears Prada, if only as a brief cameo.
