Colin David FISHER

Colin was born in Swansea on 4th November 1932 and was the youngest son of Rene and Fred. He is survived by his elder brother Gerry who although lives in Canada was still a really important part of his life. Colin attended Dynefor School in Swansea and was in the RAF for his National Service. He went on to spend more than forty years working in public service finishing his career as Senior Assistant Director of Hampshire Social Services. His career spanned working in the welfare and mental health services in South Wales, Bristol and Brighton before joining Hampshire in 1970 as an Area Director for the North East, based in Aldershot. His special passion for mental health and fairness and equality for all people has been remembered by all those who knew him. Colin was always proud to have followed on in the footsteps of his father Fred Fisher, known as the 'Father of the Welfare Service' for Swansea, and having both his daughters as Headteachers. He would often reflect with pride that his family had over one hundred years in public service. Colin met his wife Patricia Jones, a Blind Welfare Officer, in Swansea and they were married in St Hilary's, Killay. Colin is survived by his two daughters Cathy and Sue, sons-in-law Paul and Justin, grandchildren Caitlin, Zoe, Jack, Sam and Will and great-grandchildren Theo and Finley. His family were a huge part of his life and he will be greatly missed by them all. In retirement Colin enjoyed travelling, walking his dog, gardening and carving wood and drawing. He loved spending time with his family and talking to his neighbours and friends. He was known for his sociable nature, sense of humour and friendly personality. Colleagues and friends have remembered his kindness, compassion and wicked sense of humour. Colin had many voluntary roles and continued to give to public service even in his retirement. This included working for the Fenwick Hospital, Homelessness, Alcohol Abuse and the National Schizophrenic Society. He was also a Non-Executive Director of the Hampshire Ambulance Service and never stopped caring about, and supporting, the National Health Service. His wife Pat sadly died in 2004 and Colin died peacefully in his sleep on 29th January 2022. He will be very much missed and remembered by his family and friends. You are all most welcome to attend Colin's funeral service at the Test Valley Crematorium, Romsey on Friday 18th February 2022 at 10:45am. Dress code is formal, with a splash of colour and sophistication - just like Colin would dress himself. Family flowers only; however people are welcome to make donations to the Friends of Lyndhurst Surgery in remembrance of Colin. Colin and Pat lived for many years in Lyndhurst and he was always grateful of the care he and his family received from the surgery. Donations can be made by cheque payable to 'Friends of Lyndhurst Surgery' through J&L Sturney, 62 High Street, Lyndhurst, Hampshire, SO43 7BL or by donating online at colindfisher.muchloved.com.
