Pat Nevin has tipped Liverpool to turn Calvin Ramsay into a star like they did with Mohamed Salah but has questioned whether the transfer has came too early in his career.
Ramsay completed his move from Scotland to Merseyside on Sunday in a move worth an initial £4million and a further £2.5m in add ons. Despite making 39 appearances for The Dons and registering nine assists, it is expected that the 18-year-old backs up Alexander-Arnold this season.
Nevin, a former Scotland winger, admits that the Reds under Jurgen Klopp have an excellent track record of developing youngsters and players in their mid-20s into world-class players, using Salah's growth from a failed Chelsea winger to one of the best player's in world football. But did wonder whether Ramsay not being a 'stick on' at Liverpool means he may have been better served staying in the Scottish Premiership for a few more years to develop and play 'week after week.'

He told footballscotland.co.uk : "They've got Trent in that position so what's the deal here? He's another one of those where I've seen a decent amount of him this season and I've been impressed. But I can't say he's a stick on, he's too young to be absolutely sure.
"But you have to look at the record Liverpool have signing players the last few years, it's some record they've got. The boy Salah did quite well, no one expected him to do what he did to that incredible level. Look around the team and the decisions they've made have been spectacular. So for Ramsey, I would trust Liverpool's decision-makers more than I trust myself.
"We are also coming down with right-backs in Scotland, we've got Patterson and we've got him so it's good news that there is quality coming out of Scotland. Sometimes you look at players and they tick every box; tall, quick, good on the ball, good delivery, adaptable. He ticks all those boxes.
"The one question mark would be, is it right to take him away from Aberdeen to then not start games regularly? You learn a lot when your 18,19, 20. To be taken out of playing week after week, learning your trade, it's tough and sometimes it doesn't work. They will need to look at that.
"But if you are Calvin, going into training up against Mane, Jota, or Salah you better learn quick. It's exciting for him as a young player and for Scotland."
