The cast of The Crown believe the series will provide comfort to viewers grieving the loss of the Queen.
Sir Jonathan Pryce, who plays the late Prince Phillip in the upcoming series, believes it will be soothing to relive some of the Queen’s famous moments.
“I think people will gain a bit of comfort from seeing her embodied again,” says the 75-year-old.
Imelda Staunton, 66, will portray the late monarch in the fifth series of the Netflix drama, which is available to stream from tomorrow.
It features fictionalised versions of the royals’ turbulent times in the 1990s.
Viewing figures for the series increased by 500% in the wake of the Queen’s death in September, according to Sir Jonathan.
He adds that the celebration of the Queen’s life was noticeably juxtaposed against Liz Truss ’ brief stint as Prime Minister, which he believes made the public appreciate the royal’s reign even more.
“It was a reflection of where our society is at the moment – where there is a lack of trust or believability in our politicians,” he said during a press conference for the upcoming series, adding of The Queen: “This is the kind of person we want to be following and leading our country, not… well, she’s gone now. I can’t remember her name, she was there for a week."
Jonathan adds that he visited Windsor Castle and was left unimpressed, thanks to the impressive sets on the Netflix series, which reportedly costs £10million per episode.
“I had a bit of a look around, and I think fake Windsor Castle is better,” he laughed.
The Windsor scenes are filmed at t Belvoir Castle in Leicestershire.
The cast of the Crown premiered the new series at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London tonight.
Actor Dominic West, 53, plays Prince Charles while actress Elizabeth Debicki, 32, plays Princess Diana.
Dominic is accompanied on the show by his real life son, Senan, 13, who plays Prince William.
Dominic said of his son: “He had never acted before. He had this amazing innocence to him.”
