The Crown star dies just weeks after being honoured by the King

  • British actress Jane Lapotaire has died at the age of 81 after a prolific career on stage and screen.
  • She was a highly acclaimed performer, winning both Tony and Olivier Awards for her starring role in the Royal Shakespeare Company's 1981 production of Piaf.
  • Lapotaire's notable television credits included portraying Princess Kuragin in Downton Abbey and Princess Alice of Battenberg in The Crown.
  • Tributes poured in after her death, including from the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Tony Awards, and colleagues such as singer-songwriter Mike Batt and actor Carol Drinkwater.
  • She made her final public appearance last month to collect a CBE for her services to drama at Windsor Castle.
