Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman is the master of many accents, and she has won praise for her impersonation of a Welsh woman as she pranked her good friend Paul Rudd on Radio 1. The Hollywood actor was taking calls on Greg James' breakfast show on Friday morning as he promotes the latest Ant-Man movie when he received an unusual question from a 'Welsh caller'.
Paul was happily taking calls as Agony Ant-Man, when caller number four asked him a very difficult question about not getting in touch with a friend when you come to visit the UK.
The 'Welsh caller' started by telling the actor she was a "big fan" before carrying on: "I wanted to pick your brains. What would you do if you had a really, like a really good mate, like for over 20 years like, and then this friend, yeah, he doesn't live in England, but he's come to England but he hasn't told you about it.
"Then, not only has he not told you about it, he's come on to a radio show. What would you do?"
A slightly nervous Paul replied: "Oh my God. Oh no..."
The caller asked: "Would you be offended?"
He replied: "Personally, if it's me? Absolutely not. I tend to give everybody the benefit of the doubt."
Before saying several times, "Oh God" as he realised he had been rumbled.
When Greg James revealed that caller number four was actually Olivia Colman, Paul was really impressed with her accent, telling her: "You really can do every accent."
The pair then revealed that their "glorious friendship" started more than 20 years ago when they were doing a play together and Paul used to crash on the floor of Olivia's "rubbish flat in south London."
Olivia explained that the prank came about when she was listening to the Breakfast Show and heard that Paul Rudd was coming on to do Agony Ant-Man.
She said: "I went 'WHAT?' So I emailed Greg and asked 'would it be alright to do a prank on Paul? and he said 'hell yeah'.'"
Paul is in the UK to promote Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania which is in cinemas now.
