The Crown's Claire Foy has opened up about her co-star Matt Smith's role in Game of Thrones spin off, House of the Dragon. The HBO series, which was lauded over by critics and viewers, sees former Doctor Who Smith play Daemon Targaryen. The show was so popular that it led to a second series being immediately commissioned - read more about that here.
One person who wasn't the greatest fan of Smith's character in the series was Claire Foy, 38, who previously played Queen Elizabeth II to his Prince Philip. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she explained that there were elements that she found "disgusting" about Daemon Targaryen.
She said: "I've watched all of [the show]," she told host Josh Horowitz. "It took a huge amount of commitment, which waned towards the end, but I was there for it. I was a very committed friend but I disagreed with [Matt's character] in many scenes. I then had to tell him that I found them disgusting to watch."
Despite this, Foy reiterated that she's a fan of the series. She added: "But yeah, I thought it was great. And it's gone down really well, what a triumph."
During the same interview, Foy said that Smith helped her following the gargantuan reaction to her performance in The Crown. Speaking of this, she said: "He already had it because he'd done Doctor Who and he said, 'What I think is really interesting about it is that everybody thinks you've changed, but you've [stayed] exactly the same. It's just everyone's opinion of you has changed, you know?' I think the thing is not to fight it. You can't control what other people think of you, ever, so you may as well just be in charge of your own life."
The actress rose to international prominence for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown. For the part, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Actresses Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton succeeded her in future series of the Netflix royal drama. Foy will next star in upcoming film, Strangers, which has been directed by British filmmaker Andrew Haigh. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
