The confirmed dates for DWP and HMRC cost of living payments in April and May

The government will soon roll out its first instalment of the £900 cost of living payment, with many expected to receive it throughout April and May.

With the new tax year driving up the cost of many goods and seeing the end of some government support packages, the payments will be welcomed for those facing financial pressure from the cost of living crisis. The payments are aimed at alleviating the cost of living struggle for the country's most vulnerable households.

However, not all claimants will be paid at the same time. Depending on whether you receive your benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), you may get your payment later than others.

Claimants who will be eligible for the cost of living payment via tax credits only while not receiving any other means-tested benefits will receive their cash from HMRC. HMRC announced that those eligible under this criteria will begin to receive their first payment from May 2.
