It’s a week of show-stopping Dream Home reveals in Sydney

We’re covering the Dream Home reveals every week. The six teams have already been to two different cities to complete the homes of four other teams.

First, in Melbourne they renovated Brad and Mel’s home and Taeler and Elle’s home. Then it was off to Queensland to fix up Hannah and Jonny’s place and Rhys and Liam’s Queenslander.

This week, we were in Sydney at Lara and Peter’s red-brick bomb and Jacinta and Jordan’s knock-down rebuild. Judges Lana Taylor, Rosie Morley and Simon Cohen were equal parts delighted and disapproving of the room reveals.

Dream Home reveals

Let’s take a look at the rooms that were unveiled this week…

Lara and Peter’s Belrose, NSW home

Parents Lara and Peter were in need of a glow-up for their tired red brick house in Sydney’s Belrose. The brief for the other Dream Home contestants was to create a coastal Mediterranean feel.

Teams Jordan and Jacinta (whose home is being completed at the same time), Brad and Mel and Rhys and Liam are working on the home.

The recessed TV in the living room by Jordan and Jacinta got a “hallelujah” from Simon. “The stonework is beautiful,” he added.

“I want to stay in this room,” said Lana, who loved the cosy space.

“I love the hanging plant, it’s very Mediterranean,” said Lana, walking into the kitchen completed by tradie brothers Rhys and Liam.

The natural light and tiled wall beside the top cabinetry were also applauded. “It wouldn’t be the boys without a tiled feature wall,” said Simon. “I think they’ve done a great job.”

The butler’s pantry, completed by Rhys and Liam as part of the kitchen, was a “job well done” according to Simon.

“Woohoo!” said Lana, seeing the dining room by Brad and Mel. Her excitement was quickly quashed by Simon and Rosie. “No it’s not woohoo,” they said, less impressed.

“What is with that mini fridge in that big hole?” said Simon.

There was no sign that Brad and Mel, were trying to fix a melted bed corner earlier in the week. “I’m actually really liking this,” said Simon of the built-in bed frame. “I feel like I’m in a hotel room in Greece.”

The walk-in robe by Brad and Mel also went down well. “The lighting, the textures… There’s a level of luxe here,” said Rosie, who loved how it tied in with the bedroom colour palette.

The laundry was done by Rhys and Liam, and while the judges would have liked more bench space, they were suitably happy with it overall.

“They’re Aussie blokes who pull off design every time,” said Rosie of the bathroom by Rhys and Liam.

While she loved the terrazzo tiles, the handheld shower mixer seemed to be positioned slightly high.

The lighting was a bit bright for Rosie’s liking in the ensuite by Jordan and Jacinta. “It’s 7/11 at 2am,” she said.

As for the washplane sink with double taps, that was better received.

Jordan and Jacinta’s Punchbowl, NSW home

Jordan and Jacinta’s banged-up bungalow was looking so bad that it’s been knocked down to be rebuilt and revamped by the other contestants.

Dream Home teams Hannah and Jonny, Taeler and Elle and Lara and Peter (whose home is being renovated at the same time), are working on it, with a five-star luxe brief.

While Taeler and Elle went to great efforts to secure the large expanses of marble in the kitchen, it was a bit one-note for the judge. “I’ve never seen so much veining in my life,” said Lana.

“There’s a way to do en masse stone,” said Rosie. “What kills me is these two lights plonked in the centre.”

The butler’s pantry by Taeler and Elle received a similarly flat response, with the judges puzzled by the decision to give up cabinet space for wall sconces.

The living room by Hannah and Jonny certainly looked good. “It feels expensive, the way it’s been styled,” said Lana. “I think that’s the longest fireplace we’ve seen.”

The lounge placement may have looked chic, but Rosie pointed out that you’d have to turn your head at an awkward angle to watch the TV.

The dining room by Peter and Lara was bang-on brief. “There’s a level of grandeur,” said Rosie. “There’s a focal point.”

“That stone is ‘wow’, it’s so opulent,” agreed Lana.

The main bedroom by Lara and Peter was so neutral that the judges weren’t really sure what to think. “I think they met the brief, but do we feel it’s missing that bit of bling?” said Simon.

“I expected more from them, it’s lacking the bougie,” said Lana. Meanwhile, Rosie quite liked the tone on tone.

The walk-in robe was also done by Lara and Peter. “It’s warm, moody, it’s very nice,” said Simon.

The ensuite by Hannah and Jonny had a nice, serene feel, but it felt a bit safe for the judges. “We’ve seen these mirrors, we’ve seen this joinery. Where in the creativity?” said Simon.

Although the powder room was tight, Taeler and Elle made the most of it. “They’ve done a good job with the space they have,” said Simon.

Taeler and Elle also had the laundry, but the lack of storage was a fail, as was the sink placed too close to the wall.

All six teams will have their homes renovated (so everyone’s a winner!). Each week, two homes are worked on by the other teams (three pairs on each). It takes a couple of weeks to complete each house until all of the teams have their whole house renovated.

The scores will decide the top three teams at the end of the home renovations. These three teams will renovate each other’s backyards, determining the final scores. The final winning team will not only get their ‘dream home’ but also $100,000 off their mortgage.
