The coastal town in Scotland named among seven best in UK 'for a rainy day'

A Scottish town has been called one of the best in the UK "to save for a rainy day" by The Times.

Oban in Argyll and Bute was named one of seven towns across the nation that "look just as good when it pours" by the newspaper. The resort town is popular amongst tourists for its coastal views, as well as attractions such as the Oban War & Peace Museum and McCaig's Tower.

According to The Times, those heading to the town on a wet day should head to Oban Distillery. The newspaper states that the distillery's most popular whisky "has notes of orange peel, smoke, sea salt and honey", while the distillery itself predates the town.

If you are headed to Oban Distillery, the publication recommends either a guided tour with a single dram tasting or the 'Oban Chocolate Experience'. This combines four tastings with delicious chocolate courtesy of the Oban Chocolate Company.

Elsewhere, Dunollie Museum, Castle & Grounds is a Heritage Site that gives visitors an insight into Highland Social History and Clan MacDougall. Oban is also home to SAMS, the UK's oldest independent marine science organisation that has plenty to see and do for the whole family.

For those who don't mind getting a little wet, there are also numerous scenic walking and hiking trails in the area. You can even catch a ferry to the islands for a day-trip if you're feeling adventurous.

One of the town's hotels, No.26 by the Sea, has recently been named among the 25 best hotels in the world by TripAdvisor. Those looking for a place to stay in Oban can't go wrong with its stunning views and uniquely designed rooms.

Among the other destinations included in the article are Worcestershire and Lancashire. The full list of the seven UK towns worth saving for a rainy day can be found on The Times website.
