The Meg 2: The Trench
First things first: I have a real megalodon tooth at home and it’s nowhere near the size of a dustbin lid like this meg’s gnashers. Just saying, we’re not in realistic waters here. Secondly (yay!): the excellently bonkers Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, Free Fire) is now in the director’s chair. Finally: depending on your feelings about him, Wheatley is still stuck with Jason Statham as the man-hunk lead (cruel, I know). What can I say? It’s a mad beast action romp about a gigantic killer shark, there will be hapless holidaymakers unsuccessfully trying to escape said meg’s jaws on a pedalo, and Statham’s jet-ski will somehow, unbelievably, be able to outrun the rabid fish. Double-evil, I’m aware, but wouldn’t it be nice if Statham got eaten in a movie just once? Sorry Jason, only teasing, I know The Meg 2 is gonna be a banger. Out 4 August
