The Chris and Rosie Ramsey Show: Martin Kemp fell in love with wife Shirlie on Top of the Pops

Real-life husband-wife duo Chris and Rosie Ramsey were joined by a new set of celebrity couple tonight, with whom they discussed relationships, parenting, arguments and everything in between. Tonight's special guests were Martin and Shirlie Kemp.

The Chris and Rosie Ramsey Show debuted recently on BBC2. It was picked up by the broadcaster following the runaway success of the couple's podcast, Sh**ged.Married.Annoyed. The show includes the fan favourite What's Your Beef? segment, where the celebrity couple discusses the things that infuriate them about one another.

Chris is an actor, comedian and presenter he is currently competing in the latest series of Taskmaster and was a semi-finalist on Strictly Come Dancing. While Rosie has appeared on This Morning, Saturday Kitchen and The Graham Norton Show.

On tonight's episode, Martin and Shirlie also opened up about their struggles. Shirlie found fame in the 1980s with the bands Wham! and Pepsi & Shirlie. Martin on the other hand is known as the bassist in Spandau Ballet and for his role as Steve Owen in Eastenders.

The pair have been married since 1988 and they have a daughter Harley Moon and a son Roman, who's well known for presenting Capital FM's breakfast show.

The show began with Chris highlighting that the pair will be celebrating 40 years of marriage next year. The hosts then shared the fact that Martin fell in love with Shirlie on the music chart show Top of the Pops, while she was performing Young Guns with Wham!.

Martin gave more context and said: "It was a Thursday night and I was at my mum and dad's because I hadn't moved out at that point. I was watching Top of the Pops and Wham! came on, it was the first time they'd ever been on. I absolutely fell in love with Shirlie through the television screen. I was completely infatuated with her."

As if their relationship wasn't sweet enough already, Shirlie explained she fell in love with Martin when she saw him on the cover of the Smash Hits music magazine.

The celebrity couple also shared another moment that confirmed their love for each other. Martin recalled the morning after they spent their first night together, when Shirlie had conjunctivitis and couldn't see. He said: "So I got up and led her to the bathroom, it was the first time I took care of her and it was that moment I think I really fell in love."

However, all relationships have their ups and downs. In What's Your Beef? segment of the show, the pair exchanged their dislikes about each other. Shirlie said: "My beef with Martin is he throws everything away." Martin's excuse was that he's a 'clean freak' and 'can't face mess'.

While his beef with Shirlie was that she "will pick up anything from the junk shop," and "is obsessed with the Amazon people".

Last week Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo were the first couple to appear on the Chris and Rosie Ramsey show. The Made in Chelsea co-stars Laing and Habboo have been together since 2019 and Laing took the next step and proposed to Habboo at the Rosewood London Hotel in late 2021. On the show, he opened up about the difficulty of planning the wedding.
