Mum's fury at neighbours who put out wheelie bin to save parking spot on residential street

A mum has turned to the internet for advice on how to deal with her parking dispute with a neighbour. Her home is by a residential parking area and the family next door have caused tension by putting their wheelie bin on the road to save themselves a car space.

In the post, shared on Mumsnet, she said: “Our next door, but one, neighbour has a car plus their three adult sons have cars. Also our next door, but one, neighbours' brother who lives across the road has a car, but prefers to park outside our next-door, but one, neighbours house as he spends most of their time there.

“Anyway, they all park their cars on the street. When they are not home they save their space with a wheelie bin in the road. When I move the bin off the road one or the other kids (not always the adult ones) comes out of nowhere and starts shouting and swearing at me.

“They do the same to our neighbours too. I've complained to the council and they said it isn't on and they would write to them but not mention us by name. It seems to have had no effect.

“As tomorrow will be two weeks since I rang the council I'm ringing again tomorrow. Am I being unreasonable to be fed up with it night after night and to want it to stop."

In the comments, users became unanimous with their solution on hiding the bins. One said: “I'd be helping that wheelie bin to disappear into another street.”

Followed by others commenting: “Steal their wheelie? Dead of night…” and “God that would annoy me so much. I’d be tempted to ask a friend they wouldn’t recognise to take their bin for a long walk to several streets away.”

Another commenter suggested filming the process to involve the police: “I would start recording everything. When they block with a wheelie bin and how they retaliate. It's the retaliation which may need to escalate to the police.”
