The Chase's Shaun Wallace issues cutting threat to Newcastle contestant on ITV show

Shaun Wallace was in no mood to make friends on Monday's edition of The Chase, as he made a cutting threat to a contestant from Newcastle.

Second to take on the man known to millions of ITV viewers as The Dark Destroyer, was Geordie magazine journalist Jonathan, who having explained to host Bradley Walsh, that he was actually born in Fife, Scotland, before moving to Tyneside when he was 11, revealed he was hoping to win enough money to put a deposit down on his first house.

Before taking on Shaun, Jonathan had the opportunity to get some cash in the bag as he faced questions on everything from Olympic uniforms to Barbara Cartland novels.

Jonathan managed to win £4,000 and, seeing him looking rather disappointed, Bradley reassured him that was a good amount, before Shaun entered the studio to take him on.

And, uttering his first words to Jonathan, Shaun made his intentions clear, saying: "Hello Jonathan. Journalist? Your next byline is going to be a bye bye line."

Jonathan had to make the choice to play for £1,000, £4,000 or a much heftier £30,000 and, after getting advice from his teammates, opted to go for £4,000.

He was right to air on the side of caution as Shaun made light work of him, knocking Jonathan out of the game in just three questions, with the final nail in the coffin proving to be a question about swimmer Michael Phelps' Olympic medal haul.

After Bradley remarked it was "short and sweet," Chaser Shaun replied: "It needed to be. I should have knocked Emma out, I mean business."

Reacting to the result, one viewer tweeted: "Jonathan has well and truly f**ked it lol bye," while he had an admirer in another fan of the show, who, upon seeing him on screen, posted: "OH HI JONATHAN"
