The Chase's Bradley Walsh astonished as David James makes history on show

The Chase host Bradley Walsh was bowled over as former footballer David James made history with his appearance on the show.

Footballer England goalkeeper David featured in a Soccer Aid UNICEF celebrity special where he stunned the host and his teammates with his incredible knowledge.

During the programme, which aired on Friday night (June 10), the football star managed to get 11 questions right - beating the record of the most questions answered correctly in a celebrity cash builder.

David then went up against Darragh Ennis, aka The Menace, on the charity special and won £11,000 for the prize fund.

Along with his teammates Shaun Williamson, Lianne Sanderson and Dion Dublin, David went on to rack up a huge 24 correct questions during their final chase, which Bradley described as 'extraordinary'.

During Shaun's cash builder he added an impressive £132,000 to the pot.

Overall, the group managed to take home a huge £150,000 for the charity.

Fans took to Twitter to praise David for his incredible performance, as one wrote: "Bloody hell David James that was impressive #TheChase."

Another tweeted: "David James a bit of a brain box heh! #TheChase." and a third said: "Never thought I'd see the say an ex-footballer get 11 questions right on #TheChase."

One viewer wrote: "#TheChase Wow. Take a bow David James. Highest ever cash builder £11k."

"David James is a smart cookie #TheChase." and another agreed: "Some performance from David James on #thechase"

The goalkeeper went on to have 53 England caps between 1997 and 2010.

Soccer Aid is back on Sunday 12 June where two celebrity packed teams will battle it out to win at London's Olympic Stadium.

This year's match is set to air on ITV from 6.30pm.

Like previous years, the England team will take on the rest of the world in the showdown.

There will be a new face captaining this year's England team which will be singer Liam Payne who'll be joined by Damian Lewis, Alex Brooker, David Harewood, Mark Wright, Sir Mo Farah, Russell Howard and Chunkz.

Also on the team are: Teddy Sheringham, Gary Neville, Tom Grennan, Jamie Carragher, Fara Williams, Joe Cole and David James, Aitch, Mark Noble, Eni Aluko, Anita Asante and Stewart Downing.

Vicky McClure and Martin Compston are in the Soccer Aid line-up (itv)

The England team will be managed by Harry Redknapp, David Seaman, Emma Hayes and Vicky McClure.

Captaining the rest of the world will be regular Usain Bolt along with Martin Compston, Mo Gilligan, Chelcee Grimes, Patrice Evra, Steven Bartlett, Carli Lloyd, Noah Beck, Lee Mack, Munya Chawawa, Kem Cetinay, Cafu, Andriy Shevchenko, Petr Cech and Roberto Carlos.

This is as well as: Mark Strong, Tom Stoltman, Andrea Pirlo, Heather O'Reilly and Dimitar Berbatov.

The rest of the world's management team will be made up of Arsene Wenger, Robbie Keane and Idris Elba.

Dermot O'Leary will be hosting the programme alongside Maya Jama as well as Alex Scott reporting from the pitch.
