The Celtic no risk, no reward game plan Joe Hart and Co working on as Ange Postecoglou explains role

Ange Postecoglou has opened up on the no risk, no reward approach for Joe Hart and the other goalkeepers as they get used to the Celtic game plan.

The former England international noticeably positioned himself outside the box as his team-mates pressed forward in the Hoops' 4-2 pre-season win over Banik Ostrava in the Czech Republic. He was almost caught out on a couple of occasions during the match, but the Aussie boss puts that down to his team and not the opposition.

Postecoglou wants his Celtic team to be more aggressive and says in order for that to happen the whole team needs to play a part - including the goalkeeper. Veteran stopper Hart arrived late last summer and was a key man in winning the Premiership title back from Rangers and will no doubt play a huge part once again this campaign. With his late arrival in the summer window, there wasn't time to work on things but with a full pre-season under the belt at Parkhead, it has allowed for the new plan to materialise.

Speaking about the approach, Postecoglou said: “Joe and the keepers are getting used to our game plan.

“Last year, he came in pretty late and we didn’t have a chance to work on a lot of things. It depends on the context of the game.

“There were a couple of times against Banik when he almost got caught out, but that was because of our sloppy passing.

“There is no denying, we want to be an aggressive team. To do that, it means everyone needs to be a bit more aggressive, and Joe or whoever our goalie is needs to be a part of that.

“There is no risk when you don’t give the ball away. The risk comes when you give it to the opposition. If we stop it, the risk doesn’t happen.”

Meanwhile, the Celtic gaffer admits a potential tour of Japan next year is not something he is aware of.

He added: “That’s not something on my radar at all.”
