Sometimes there's nothing nicer than going to your local for a pint. Whether you're watching a rugby match, soaking up the sun in a beer garden or catching up with friends, people enjoy flocking to Cardiff's pubs to get a cold pint pf their favourite tipple.
But going out for a drink can be a costly experience and with the rising cost of living, most of us are now having to watch the pennies a little more closely. According to the latest figures from the British Beer and Pub Association, the average cost of a pint in the UK is £4.07 (£4.84 in London). However, that doesn't mean we have to give up socialising and if you hunt around, you can still get pints at competitive prices.
From IPA to lager, we've taken a look at the price lists at local pubs in and around Cardiff to see where we can get pints for lower than the average cost right now (prices correct at time of publication of article).

The Borough, St Mary Street
Nestled in the middle of St Mary Street, The Borough is a popular traditional pub that offers a range of ales and beers. Probably one of the most affordable places in the city to grab a pint, it's super popular on game days and a classic British pub. If you're a fan of John Smith, you can grab a pint of the good stuff for only £2.50.
Tiny Rebel, Westgate Street
Tiny Rebel is one of Wales' favorites. Producing its own lager and ales, it's quickly become a hit with visitors and regulars in Cardiff. Serving delicious home-brewed drinks, you can grab some of the IPA for as little as £3.50. The vast amount of drink options are also a huge bonus for this micro-brewery.
Pen & Wig, Park Grove
With open mic nights, an open garden seating area and great drinks and food on the menu, the Pen & Wig is favorite in the heart of the capital on match days and locals wanting to have a quick pint after work is done. You can still get change from a fiver, with the lowest-priced drink costing £4.00 a pop.
The Royal George, MacKintosh Place
The Royal George in Roath is a huge hit with the young population. With it being close by to the likes of Roath Park and Cathays, the pub has a steady stream of people coming into visit. With it's unique outdoor space, you can grab a pint here for as little as £3.20.
Black Lion, Cardiff Road
Based in Llandaff village, the Black Lion is one of many pubs located around the area. Being one of three pubs within spitting distance, this place is a classic boozer that bolsters unique charm and a great option for those wanting to head out on a pub crawl. For as little as £2.90, you can enjoy a cold pint and enjoy the great options Llandaff has to offer.
The North Star, North Road
The North Star can be found as you exit the city center. A short distance away from practically everything the city has to offer, you can get a pint of Carling for as little as £2.20 on a Sunday. With amazing food and quizzes put on weekly, it's a brilliant pub with a lot of character.
The Golden Cross, Hayes Bridge Road
The Golden Cross is Wales' oldest LGBT+ venue, and is a popular pub that has served the community for decades. For only £3.95, you can grab yourself a Carling. Not bad when the venue is right in the middle of the city center and just a stone throw away from everything you possibly need.
Wetherspoons
We couldn't miss out Wetherspoons, even if it's a chain, as it's notorious for selling cut-price drinks.
And among some of the bargains that can be found at Cardiff branches are... Prince of Wales, Greene King Ruddles Best, £1.69; Great Western, Corona £3.69 and The Gatekeeper, Greene King Abbot Ale, £2.59.
