Rangers will need two players to properly replace Calvin Bassey according to former striker Kris Boyd. Versatile defender Bassey has reportedly held talks with Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder and the four-time European Cup winners are preparing a formal offer for the Nigerian international, with Brighton also interested in signing him.
Given Bassey is equally adept at playing in the middle of defence as well as left back, ex-Ibrox frontman Boyd believes Giovanni van Bronckhorst will need to sign two players to fill the gap left in the squad should he depart. But the flipside is that the £20million-plus fee Rangers are looking for could help them keep their stars now in the final year of their contracts. Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Filip Helander and Ryan Jack can all leave the club for nothing next summer as things stand.
And Boyd can see the Light Blues investing any Bassey money into new deals for those three. However, they’ll also need to identify a couple of new faces to ensure Bassey’s exit doesn’t leave them short.
