The Boys creator Eric Kripke responds to fan fears over a lackluster finale

The Deep, Homelander, and Black Noir in The Boys season 5.

Just days after The Boys creator Eric Kripke shared his concerns over fans judging the whole series based on the finale, the showrunner has made it clear that his anxieties come from a place of wanting the show to do well rather than because it isn't up to par.

"I make a rule never to respond but: you want a showrunner who's anxious & obsessing over every detail cause they want it to be great! A writer who is 'I nailed that shit' confident is usually a bad writer," said Kripke on Twitter. "Ok, vanishing back into the hedge Homer style."

Kirpke's comment is in response to a fan tweeting "oh it's bad" under his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where Kripke said how hard it is to make a final episode of a final season, as "fans will retroactively judge the show based on how they feel about the finale."

When the interview hit the internet, many were concerned that Kripke was implying that he had dropped the ball on The Boys series finale, and was in some way hinting that fans may be disappointed. Kripke told THR, "If we stiff it, they will definitely say, 'Well, that show wasn't as good as we thought it was….' And it's the first finale I've ever done, too – so it's not like I have any experience with it."

Kripke's worries are understandable. We have seen many beloved shows turn sour due to a lackluster final episode, from Game of Thrones to Lost, and comedy shows like Seinfeld. Even The Sopranos' final outing had some people on the fence. However, in a past interview, Kripke has said that The Boys series finale will be nothing like Game of Thrones, as, frankly, they don't have the budget. Which is a good thing, we guess.

However, season 5 seems to be a big hit with fans so far, earning an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score and blowing fans away with its shocking season premiere. Based on the comic series of the same name, The Boys' last outing will finally wrap up the tense ongoing battle between Supe leader Homelander and The Boys' Billy Butcher.
