With the current BMW X4 nearing the end of its production run, BMW is looking set to fill the gap in its coupe-SUV lineup with a fully electric replacement. That said, this new model likely won’t arrive as a direct one-for-one successor.
Rather than launching another X4, BMW is expected to introduce the iX4—an all-electric take on its distinctive coupe-style SUV. According to early rumors, the iX4 will ride on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform and sit alongside the iX3 in the lineup. The two would share much of their underlying technology, with the iX4 leaning into a sportier, more style-focused role.
The iX4 could debut as soon as this year. Until then, here’s what we know so far.
What Will the BMW iX4 Look Like?

Based on our renderings, which draw heavily from spy shots of camouflaged prototypes, the iX4 should closely resemble the new iX3. Albeit with a sharper roofline.
Up front, expect slim headlights and a narrow, vertically oriented take on BMW’s signature kidney grille—clearly inspired by the brand’s 1970s design roots. The hood, front bumper, and wheel arches look nearly identical to those on the iX3, highlighting just how closely related the two models are.
The biggest visual differences show up along the sides and at the rear. The iX4 features a more dramatic, arched roofline that slopes sharply into a fastback-style tail, giving it a noticeably sleeker profile. The rear window is more steeply angled than on the iX3, and a subtle roof spoiler is neatly integrated at the back.
In the rear, thin horizontal taillights echo those of its electric sibling. The iX4 may also be slightly longer than the iX3—around 188.0 inches—while keeping similar overall proportions.
What Kind Of Technology Will It Have?

While BMW hasn’t released any interior images, the iX4 will almost certainly share most of its cabin with the iX3. That means BMW's new Panoramic iDrive system should be front and center, combining a slim display running along the base of the windshield with a large 17.9-inch central touchscreen.
A four-spoke steering wheel and a clean, minimalist layout would further reflect the Neue Klasse design approach. But BMW could give the iX4 its own flavor through exclusive upholstery choices and trim options.
What About The Powertrain & Range?
Under the skin, the iX4 is expected to closely match the iX3. That would mean a 108.0-kilowatt-hour battery paired with an 800-volt electrical system, allowing DC fast-charging speeds of up to 400 kilowatts. In ideal conditions, a 10-to-80 percent charge could take about 20 minutes. Thanks to its more aerodynamic shape, the iX4 might even edge out the iX3’s claimed 500-plus-mile range.
At launch, the iX4 will likely be offered in a 50 xDrive version with dual electric motors and around 470 horsepower. Rear-wheel-drive variants could arrive later.
When Will The New BMW iX4 Debut?
The BMW iX4 is expected to debut in the second half of 2026, with production reportedly starting around November. No word on pricing, but expect a similar MSRP to the iX3, which should start at around $60,000 in the US.
