The biggest Oscar snubs and shocks as Marty Supreme and The Secret Agent lose out

  • Timothee Chalamet and his film Marty Supreme were shut out at the Oscars, despite the film receiving nine nominations and Chalamet being nominated for Best Actor.
  • Chalamet, who had previously won Golden Globe and Critics' Choice awards, lost the Best Actor Oscar to Michael B Jordan for Sinners, which, alongside One Battle After Another, dominated the ceremony.
  • Brazilian film The Secret Agent also left the awards empty-handed, despite nominations for Best Picture, Best International Feature, and Best Actor for Wagner Moura.
  • A surprise occurred in the inaugural casting category, with Cassandra Kulukundis winning for One Battle After Another, contrary to expectations that Francine Maisler from Sinners would win.
  • Further unexpected outcomes included a rare tie in the live action short film category between The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva, and Mr Nobody Against Putin winning Best Documentary Feature over the favoured The Perfect Neighbour.
