The food we eat is responsible for around 13 percent of the capital’s carbon footprint. Experts say we need to cut our red meat intake by half to help protect our planet.

According to experts in the C40 Cities movement by 2030, cities should be aiming for: 16kg of meat per person per year (down from an average of 58kg); 90kg dairy per person per year (down from an average of 106kg, or around 220kg in Europe.)

This means that people should only be eating meat once or twice a week.

To help you reduce your meat consumption, here are some meat-free takeaway options available across Dublin.

Domino's

Domino's Pizza announced the launch of their newest Vegan Friendly pizza, the Vegan PepperoNAY. So vegans looking for more choice can order the pizza made from fresh, vegan dough with vine-ripened tomato sauce, vegan cheese and vegan pepperoni.

That’s not all as the Vegan PepperoNAY is served with the mouth-watering vegan garlic and herb dip.

Subway

Subway TLC (Subway)

Subway has launched the plant-based T.L.C Tikka (Tastes.Like.Chicken.) sub. It is also available as a salad or a wrap which has all the chicken tikka taste, but made from tasty plant-based alternatives.

It is made from delicious strips of plant-based chicken and is made with unique tikka-inspired flavours, designed to mimic Subway’s roast chicken breast strips, and is available with slices of Violife vegan cheese.

That's not all, Subway has a wide range of plant-based options with the popular Meatless Meatball Marinara, Veggie Delite and Vegan Double Choc Cookie also available.

McDonald’s

The McPlant (McDonald's)

McDonald’s have rolled out of the McPlant to all restaurants across Ireland - which took over three years to develop.

The plant-based patty was co-developed with Beyond Meat and features a Vegan Sesame Bun, Mustard, Ketchup, Vegan Sauce, Fresh Onion, Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato and Vegan Cheese.
