The best gigs and club nights to book this week

Top pick: DJ ATRIP

Phonox, November 28

If you’re reading this on the Tube home, desperate for an impromptu boogie, rest easy. Upbeat, emotional DJ ATRIP is headed to Phonox with special guests Megra and Mia Lily. For some good, old-fashioned, sweaty, hands in the air fun, make tracks to Brixton tonight.

Late Night Comedy Rave

The George Tavern, November 28

Comedy and raving sounds like a combination to turn the stomach, I know, but this thing might just have legs. Adam Flood is bringing his sellout Edinburgh Fringe show to The George Tavern in Whitehall, a night which he describes as “Boiler Room does stand-up”.

Who knows, maybe a combination of big beats and belly laughs could be the solution to those nasty winter blues.

False Idols

Drumsheds, November 30

Drumsheds (Gobinder Jhitta)

The good, the bad and the messy of London’s electronic scene will be caught between two events this weekend: False Idols and Joy Orbison. Although some will attempt to flock between them like Glasto stages, many will have to choose. False Idols is looking like a guaranteed good time, with Mel C, Jessie Ware, Romy, Haai and The Blessed Madonna set to perform.

The Greyhound House Party

The Greyhound, November 30

Brought to you by the masterminds behind All My Friends and The Cause, The Greyhound is a proper south London boozer-slash-underground club. If you haven’t been since the reopening this March, get down there this Saturday for one of their trademark “house parties”.

Joy Orbison

EartH, November 30

One track had a selectors in a complete chokehold this summer, and that was Joy Orbison’s minimalist, reverberating hit Flight FM. For this, as well as shades of UK garage, dubstep and jungle, head to EartH this Saturday. Or, rather, get on the waitlist as soon as you can and hope for the best.

Vampire Weekend

Eventim Apollo, December 4&5

While most will associate Vampire Weekend with the opening riff of A-Punk (one of the catchiest beginnings to a song of all time), the beloved American indie band have released countless other instant classics since their eponymous first album in 2008. If I can’t convince you, everyone crooning along to Mary Boone next week will.
