The best gigs and club nights to book this week

Top pick: Top pick: The Hydra curated by Four Tet

Drumsheds, November 2, drumshedslondon.com

If you want a huge Halloween weekend, where bigger (or better?) than Tottenham’s superclub. And as any electronic music fan knows, there isn’t a safer pair of curatorial hands than good ol’ Kieran Hebden of Four Tet, right.

CTRL2 with Reprezent

The Carpet Shop, October 31, ra.co

A free event? On Halloween? It’s more likely than you think. Head down to Carpet Shop in Peckham tonight for the venue’s free CTRL2 party, with tunes courtesy of the selectors from Reprezent Radio. It’s bound to be a good time — just get there early, or risk your entry!

Soft Play

O2 Academy Brixton, October 31, academymusicgroup.com

The band formerly known as Slaves are back on the road for their first headline tour in six years, culminating in a big blowout in Brixton. To see high energy performances from their new album, Heavy Jelly, as well as all the old classics like The Hunter and Cheer Up London, this is a perfectly punk Halloween gig.

PC Music Present: Pop Crypt II

HERE at Outernet, October 31, seetickets.com

If you like Charli XCX, there’s a high chance you also like PC Music, you just haven’t realised it yet. AG Cook, one of Charli’s main collaborators and a key name in the futuristic hyperpop genre, is putting on a party this Halloween at Here. This gig may be full to the brim of buzzy Gen Zs, but it will definitely be an experience.

Jake Isaac

Village Underground, November 2, villageunderground.co.uk

If Halloween weekend leaves you feeling a little tender and tired, then Jake Isaac’s (above) gentle blend of soul and R&B will be an utter balm. You’ll almost wish Village Underground was an open air venue, full of soft blankets and candles (obvious fire hazard aside) for this soothing performance.

Kae Tempest

Koko, November 5, koko.co.uk

Why not wind down from Halloweekend with some spoken word? Not your average shoutfest, Kae Tempest describes herself as a musician “who plays words”. Get down to Koko for a moving, powerful performance that will leave you less sweaty and hungover, more caring and contemplative.
