The beautiful northeast park crowned Scotland’s favourite following nationwide vote

A popular park in the northeast has just been crowned Scotland's favourite green space in a nationwide vote. Seaton Park in Aberdeen was picked out as the best in the Fields in Trust, UK's Favourite Parks 2022 competition .

The competition from the British charity saw 364 local parks and green spaces go head to head in a bid to be crowned the best in the UK. When it came to the vote in Scotland, there was only one winner with the national title going to beautiful greenspace in Aberdeen. Sadly, it didn't win the overall title, which went to Penrhos Coastal Park in Wales.

The park, which is situated to the north of the city on the banks of the River Don, is hugely popular with local residents thanks to its flower beds, walled garden, memorial fountain, Wallace Tower and the beloved Mr Therm steam engine.

Commenting on the competition, Helen Griffiths, chief executive of Fields in Trust said: "We've had a fantastic response to the competition from all across the UK and I'd like to thank everyone who nominated and voted for parks over the past few weeks.

"The UK is home to such a diverse range of green spaces, and we hope that this award has encouraged people to truly appreciate their local parks.

"Our work to legally protect green spaces for good means we're well aware of the threats they face and how important it is value and celebrate them."

Fields in Trust has also revealed the parks in the UK which received a Local Favourites status. These parks placed in the top 20 per cent of the public vote.

Only five parks in Scotland picked up the Local Favourites title including:

  • Zetland Park, Grangemouth, Falkirk
  • Aden Country Park, Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire

  • Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline, Fife

  • Starbank Park, Edinburgh

  • Wilton Lodge Park, Hawick, Borders

Convener of the Operational Delivery Committee, Councillor Miranda Radley, said: “We are delighted that Seaton Park has been awarded the title of ‘Scotland’s Favourite Park’.

“It is fantastic not only for the city as a whole, but also for the fantastic Friends group and local community who have been so dedicated in helping to get Seaton Park to such a high standard that locals and visitors alike can enjoy.”
