In a world that includes Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson, there has to be something that balances out the Revolutionary Quarterback Era. Something that lets football lovers everywhere know that, actually, most quarterbacks can’t launch 60-yard darts downfield with minimal effort while a defender bears down on them.
It can’t be a great defense, because that’s already the natural foil to an excellent quarterback. Toss that idea into the trash. Hmm. This is a tough one. Give me a moment to think. What — or who — is the anti-Mahomes?
Oh, no. What’s that coming from Chicago?? Is that Nathan Peterman’s music???
It sure is. On Wednesday, the Bears signed the much-maligned journeyman backup quarterback. And presumably, they have to know Peterman’s history. Right?
Free-agent QB Nathan Peterman is signing a one-year contract with the #Bears, per source.
Peterman — who opened the 2018 season as the #Bills’ starter ahead of Josh Allen — spent the last few seasons with the #Raiders. Now, he joins Justin Fields and Trevor Siemian in Chicago.

Peterman is most famous, of course, for having one of the worst statistical games in NFL history. If this is how the Bears plan to continue developing Justin Fields, I have to say: It’s very bold to give him a direct model of how NOT to play quarterback.
Note: The Bears are currently +9000 to win Super Bowl 57 with oddsmakers at Tipico Sportsbook. Call it a hunch, but I don’t think Peterman makes that any better.
NFL fans were absolutely delighted about the Peterman-to-Chicago news. So much so, that they kept making the same evergreen jokes.
