A Whitley Bay business has picked up an award for bringing something different to the region’s food and drink scene.
Eat Clean opened on Park Avenue in May last year, with a view to providing a healthy alternative to traditional takeaways without compromising on taste. After proving a huge hit with locals, the restaurant - which delivers within a six-mile radius of its sit-in venue - was handed a Pioneers & Innovators award by Uber Eats after making the shortlist for the food app’s Restaurant of the Year 2022.
The business was created by Asu Miah, Momin Razaq and Shakil Ahmed, who work alongside their chefs to create Eat Clean’s unique range of flavoursome dishes. Using plenty of the herbs and spices commonly found in popular dishes from their own culture, the trio designed the restaurant menu to bring a range of tastes from around the world to Whitley Bay.

Asu, Momin and Shakil said that they brought Eat Clean to the coast after finding that the area lacked places to eat out with a focus on healthy food. Of the existing places they had tried in the region, the food enthusiasts found that the healthier options were lacking in variety and flavour - so they decided to change that.
Promising to cater for every diet and palate, the dishes available at Eat Clean include an all-day brunch selection, wraps, bowls and boxes ideal for on-the-go, as well as daily prep meals which give customers the option to build their own lunch from a range of options. Meat eaters can tuck into the likes of steak and eggs, a chilli chicken wrap or tuna pesto pasta, while there are several vegan and vegetarian alternatives too as well as smoothies, fruit juices and coffees.
With flavours including “a bit of everything” from around the world, from Indian to Italian to Chinese, there's something to suit everyone's tastes on the menu. And locals should watch this space - Eat Clean’s talented creators hope that in the future, the restaurant’s unique offering will become a household name.
