With the major free agent moves all but concluded and the 2022 NFL draft class set to begin their rookie minicamp this weekend, the Indianapolis Colts are now in the early stages of molding the depth chart.
While we took a look at the updated depth charts on both the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side of the ball, there is one position where most analysts could see the Colts adding to in free agency following the draft.
In listing every team’s biggest need following the draft, The Athletic turned to its beat writers to provide the answers.
“The Colts’ depth at corner is probably the thinnest on the team, especially on the outside. Kenny Moore makes life easy in the slot, but the outside starters at this point are Stephon Gilmore and either Isaiah Rodgers or Brandon Facyson. Behind them, there are questions. For a position that sees lots of injuries, adding another veteran before camp might be a good idea. — Zak Keefer”
The addition of Gilmore will go a long way as the Colts have a solid 1-2 punch with him and Moore. There is upside with Facyson and Rodgers, the latter of which is entering his third season.
But adding another veteran to the group wouldn’t be a bad idea.
We discussed how the recently-released James Bradberry would be a good fit for the Colts, especially considering how much the AFC improved on the offensive side of the ball this offseason.
It will be interesting to see if the Colts stand pat with what they have in the cornerback room, but no one would be surprised if Chris Ballard continued to add depth to that position.
