The Athletic dubs Lonzo Ball with most to prove for Bulls in 2022-23

With training camp right around the corner,

For the Chicago Bulls, health was the biggest factor last season, as the Bulls fell to the No. 6 seed in the East, ultimately losing in the first-round to the Milwaukee Bucks.

One of those factors stems around Lonzo Ball’s health, who underwent surgery to repair a meniscus tear in late-January and was unable to return for the remainder of the season due to continued discomfort in the knee when attempting to rehab.

The Athletic put together a list of a player on every team that has the most to prove in 2022-23. For the Bulls, that was Lonzo Ball.

Darnell Mayberry:

Lonzo Ball appeared in only 35 contests in his first season with the Bulls, largely due to left knee discomfort that required meniscus surgery in January. His recovery has been slow, and his availability for the start of the season remains in question. More than that, Ball has been available for only 65 percent of his teams’ contests through his first five seasons. This must be the season he stays healthy and in the lineup. With Ball, the Bulls are among the Eastern Conference elite. Without him, Chicago is ordinary.

Mayberry is right — if Ball isn’t healthy and able to be on the court to help lead Chicago’s perimeter defense and stretch the floor with his playmaking and outside shooting, the Bulls may be stuck in the middle of the pack out East.
