British street artist Banksy, known for socially and politically-charged work as well as their humour, commands an international following despite a cloak of anonymity. 'The Art Of Banksy: Without Limits’ is a rare opportunity for fans in Thailand to appreciate original works and other pieces, inspired by them, up close.
The touring art show has been held in 18 cities across the world and will be held for the first time in Southeast Asia at Moca Bangkok until Dec 31, as a result of a joint effort between the gallery, King Power and Plan Ba Media. Each time the show moves to a new city, it is designed to fit with the new venue. So far, it claims to have welcomed 1.2 million visitors. ** However, this show hasn't been endorsed or authorised by Banksy and its run in some countries caused controversies.
Some 150 artworks are on display, including Banksy-certified originals. They range from prints, photographs, sculptures, installations and murals. The highlights include recreations of Banksy's works with stencil technique, mesmerising murals that embody a street art vibe, a documentary, which digs deep into the life and work of the elusive artist (or 'artists'?), a mini recreation of 'Dismaland' (a chef-d'œuvre from 2015), a recreation of ‘Bathroom’ (created during the height of the pandemic), a video installation called 'Infitiy Room' and more across 700m². It takes over three exhibition rooms, being the biggest rotating exhibition ever held by the contemporary gallery.
Proceeds from the show will be donated to the rescue ship ‘M.V. Louise Michel’, which picks up desperate migrants drifting helplessly in the Mediterranean sea.
