The Alchemist in Newcastle mixes up a winning menu of comedy and cocktails

Comedy and theatre will combine at a Newcastle restaurant-bar in a one-off night of entertainment.

The Alchemist in Eldon Square food court has announced it will be hosting its first ever comedy night on September 1 with a line-up of stand-up talent including Newcastle's Lauren Pattison who will be fresh from her current performance at the Edinburgh Fringe. And guests can expect plenty of entertainment behind the bar too as the venue is renowned for its theatrical cocktail-making.

On the menu will be the likes of The Colour Changing One, a cocktail which has become a staple for the city bar and is a mix of vodka, apple liqueur, citrus and, apparently, a touch of magic which turns it into a smoking concoction that changes before the eyes from blue to purple and then to pink. This is one of two options available as part of a drinks package on the night; the other being a Cheeky Vimto which combines two gins - sloe and blood orange - with cherry and Vimto jelly.

Pattison, who was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards in 2017, is this time performing there with her new show It Is What It Is. She will be joined on the Alchemist's comedy triple-bill by another Fringe performer, George Zacharopulos, and Omar Abid. And adding to the laughs will be Lee Kyle, acting as compère for the night.

The Alchemist, whose imaginative cocktail creations in the past have included a range reflecting a dark side of the festive season, offers - besides its drinks menu - all-day casual dining from breakfast to dinner. As it now expands its menu of what's on offer, it is hoping that this will be the first in a series of special nights.

The comedy event will start at 8pm on September 1 and tickets cost £16. Booths with drink packages for four people can be booked online.

Guests can also book tables for food after the show if they wish. For more about the venue see here and to book for the comedy night see here.
