ACT's bikie monitoring bill hits $628k, expert warns colours ban may backfire

A visible rise in outlaw motorcycle gang gatherings in the capital has cost police upwards of half a million dollars in redirected resources to monitor gang members flocking to the ACT in large numbers.

Fresh ACT Policing figures obtained by The Canberra Times reveal a total cost of $628,394 for overt police operations targeting outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) events in the past two years.

This masthead can also reveal previously undisclosed insights into two secret high-level gang meetings in 2025 and 2024, which police confirmed were monitored using existing resources.
