The 7 Most Unbelievable Mansions in America That Only Billionaires Can Afford

When it comes to luxury real estate, America’s wealthiest citizens spare no expense. From Gilded Age palaces to modern mega-mansions, these estates feature amenities most of us can only dream of — private IMAX theaters, 100-car garages, and swimming pools larger than many homes.

Biltmore: The Largest Private Home in America

Biltmore in North Carolina, built for George Washington Vanderbilt II in the late 19th century, sprawls over 175,000 square feet, making it the largest privately owned house in America, according to Love Property. The colossal Gilded Age mansion features more than 250 exquisitely decorated rooms and is still owned by descendants of the Vanderbilt family today.

OHEKA Castle: A Gilded Age Masterpiece

Not far behind is OHEKA Castle in Long Island, New York. At 109,000 square feet, the home was and still is the second-largest ever built in the United States. Built by financier Otto Hermann Kahn in 1919, the 127-room castle had more than 100 staff members who used a network of secret passageways and tunnels to remain out of sight.

Gordon Pointe: Record-Setting Beachfront Luxury

For those seeking beachfront opulence, a nine-acre compound in Naples, Florida, called Gordon Pointe, set the record for the most expensive home for sale in the U.S. at $295 million in February 2024, Robb Report reported.

Two Modern Mega-Mansions

Modern billionaires are building equally impressive estates. The Angelo Estate in Beverly Hills, designed by master architect Ed Tuttle in 2012, spans a colossal 50,000 square feet across three structures. Built by Anthony Pritzker, an heir to the Hyatt Hotel fortune worth $4.1 billion per Mabumbe, the property features parking for up to 100 cars, a nightclub, movie theater, bowling alley, and even a panic room.

The Manor in Holmby Hills boasts a jaw-dropping 123 rooms with 14 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms across its 56,500-square-foot floor plan, making it 1,500 square feet bigger than the White House, Love Property notes. Built by legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling, the mansion requires a staff of 50 just to keep it running.

Even Billionaire Homes Can Struggle To Sell

Even with eye-watering price tags, these properties often struggle to find buyers. Casa Encantada in Bel-Air, a 40,000-square-foot mansion that once belonged to hotel magnate Conrad Hilton, was still for sale in April 2025 for the reduced price of $175 million after initially listing at $250 million, Love Property reports.

Villa Vittoriosa: Georgia’s Biggest Family Home

Hip-hop mogul Rick Ross owns Villa Vittoriosa in Georgia, which Love Property identifies as the biggest family residence in the state. The home features 12 bedrooms and 21 bathrooms, as well as a bowling alley and a dining room fit for 100 guests. The outdoor pool is allegedly one of the largest private swimming pools in the United States.

The Pinnacle of American Luxury

These mega-mansions represent the pinnacle of American luxury living, where no amenity is too extravagant and no price tag too high for the ultra-wealthy. From Gilded Age railroad barons to tech billionaires, America’s largest homes continue to push the boundaries of residential architecture — and what only billionaires can afford.
