NBA 2K26 brings some new things while also offering returning features. This includes longtime features like badges, which have remained a mainstay in the series and an important aspect in the development of your MyPLAYER in MyCAREER/The City.
But another feature that’s been around for many years now is the Takeover meter, and it continues to evolve. In past NBA 2Ks, you would fill up a meter by making big plays on the court, and once the meter was filled, you would hit a button to activate it.
This would give you a significant attribute boost mid-game for your MyPLAYER. Now, Takeover activates automatically as you fill it up. Plus, there are levels now too, so the more you fill up the meter, the more of a boost you receive attribute-wise.
In NBA 2K26, you can unlock numerous Takeover packages, each offering boosts to three attributes for your MyPLAYER. You can even customize your own Takeover packages once you unlock this feature after playing several games either in The City or in the NBA. You can add up to four Takeovers in your loadout and choose one right before a game starts. If you want to add some default Takeover packages to your loadout, then here are some of the best ones to consider.
Fortress
This Takeover is all about defense, and it’s another one that’s very balanced. You receive a boost on your interior defense, perimeter defense and defensive rebound attributes with this Takeover. That will make any MyPLAYER a problem on defense.
And this is another one that can benefit anyone, regardless of size or position. Rebounding is usually popular with bigs, but you can create some great guard and small forward builds with a solid enough defensive rebound attribute. And so getting this Takeover will amplify your ability to grab boards, even as a smaller player, and that can be valuable on the court.
And having both a boost in PD and ID speaks for itself. You can guard pretty much anyone if this thing is at level five and your base attributes are already decent enough. Glue is the name of Fortress’ Takeover Ability, and when activated, it will really let you clamp down on your opponent and make them bobble the basketball along the way.
Gifted Hands
This right here is a wonderful blend of offense and defense. You get a boost to your three-point, steal, and perimeter defense attributes with this one. This is definitely going to be popular with smaller MyPLAYER builds because of the PD aspect, but it can be great for bigs as well.
If you’re a big man, obviously, it’s important to emphasize interior defense, but getting a boost to your perimeter defense is very useful. Because let’s face it, there’s going to be times where you’ll have to step out to the outside if you’re a big, especially in Park/Theater games.
So it’s really a win-win for any kind of MyPLAYER. The shooting alone will make you dangerous, let alone the defense and the ability to swipe the ball away. Just like with Fortress, you’ll also get the Glue Takeover Ability when you reach level five.
Mixtape
The Mixtape Takeover in NBA 2K26 is essentially a dream for anyone who uses a guard or forward MyPLAYER. Many players who play Park, Rec, or Theater games want to bust some ankles, blow past their defenders, and also drain threes, and that’s what this Takeover provides as it boosts your ball handle, speed with the ball, and three-point ratings.
If you already have a good driving dunk rating, then that Speed with Ball boost will make you extra explosive. Bigs can find this Takeover useful as well. If your big MyPLAYER already has a decent enough ball handle rating, then that boost can help prevent him from losing the ball easier. Also, getting the speed with ball boost is always nice.
And of course, the three-point boost can benefit anyone unless you have a pure interior MyPLAYER, but many builds do have a decent three-ball, so this Take can be your friend. All in all, it’s a fun option to add to your Takeover loadout.
Powerhouse
Speed kills, as they say, and that includes in NBA 2K26, where pacing can have an impact on the game. This Takeover is all about physicals, bringing a boost to Speed, Agility, and Strength. So not only do you get some extra speed, but you’ll also get a nice strength bonus as well.
Bigs who need just that extra little twitch in their speed will love this one, and if scoring in the paint is a big part of your game, then that bonus strength will come in handy too. But although Strength is mostly beneficial for bigs, smaller players can also benefit from it, as the Strength attribute can affect how bothered you are by defenders as a ball handler.
And of course, if you’re using a smaller MyPLAYER, he’s likely already really fast, and so having that boost in Speed and Agility will really have you blazing on the court. The Takeover Ability here is called Hydration Hero, which prevents adrenaline and stamina drain, which is huge because you won’t get tired as easily.
3PT Architect
If you want a little mix of Steph Curry and Magic Johnson, then this is a great Takeover option to add to your loadout in NBA 2K26. It boosts your Three-Point, Ball Handle, and Pass Accuracy attributes. Now, Ball Handle, as we know, is mostly more effective with smaller builds, but the three-ball and pass accuracy boosts are hugely beneficial, regardless of your build or size.
Pass Accuracy is great for guards and forwards who are bringing the ball up the court. Meanwhile, it’s equally great for bigs, because outlet passes are so critical after grabbing rebounds, and getting a boost in Pass Accuracy ensures those passes are extra smooth. And heck, it’s great if you’re playing a little point-center too.
And I know the three-ball has gotten a lot of love in this article, but it can’t be overstated how important they are. Definitely not saying you need to force threes every possession; you should also find the smartest scoring opportunity. But, having that ability to drain a three can be the difference between winning and losing, so why not give it a boost?
Honorable Mention: The Commander
This Takeover will have defensive-oriented bigs licking their chops. This beauty gives you a boost in Interior Defense, Block, and Defensive Rebound. It’s truly a three-course dish of defensive deliciousness that should be considered for your loadout. It’s honorable because it’s heavily exclusive for bigs.
