It's perhaps no surprise that the Rangers Hall of Fame has kept its doors firmly closed for the past eight years.
A venue open only to the greatest players to have pulled on the light blue, it bears the names of a pantheon of Govan goliaths including John Greig, Ally McCoist, Graeme Souness, Willie Henderson, George Young .. the list goes on.
That Lee McCulloch, Nacho Novo and the late Fernando Ricksen were the last inductees tells it’s own story about a near decade in the doldrums.
But now, after an incredible unbeaten league campaign that saw Rangers return to the very top of the Scottish game, the debate over throwing open that gateway to greatness is raging among supporters once again.
Front and centre of the discussion is the man who led Steven Gerrard’s side to that 55th title - and who finds himself pivotal to the push for more glory on the domestic and European fronts.
James Tavernier has ridden the rough with the smooth and former Ibrox forward Greg Stewart has marvelled at his leadership qualities.
As a team mate Stewart sympathised as Tavernier was singled out for flak when a title tilt went awry after the winter break two seasons running.
But the Englishman never wavered. In seven seasons Tavernier has struck 77 goals in 332 appearances from right back. A sensational figure bolstered by his equally important 105 assists.
And Stewart reckons the 30-year-old has already achieved legend status by securing a title he reckons is one of, if not THE, greatest in the club’s history.
There are others close to that list of greats too, he reckons, including Allan McGregor, Alfredo Morelos and Connor Goldson whose remarkable consistency saw him play every single minute of the title-clinching campaign.
Speaking to the Record Rangers podcast Stewart said: “In my opinion they won probably the greatest title in the club’s history.
“You have to remember all these other Hall of Fame guys always played with top players and top Rangers teams in the Champions League.
“Tav has not had that standard beside him all the time at Rangers. Right now is probably the highest standard he’s had in terms of quality.
“You probably won’t realise how good Tav is until he’s not there.
“It’s the same with Connor Goldson. Rangers fans won’t appreciate how good these two are until they’ve left.
“Tav is a great guy, a great captain and he’s shown that on the park recently.
“He has been there through some tough times. Guys like that I love to see succeed.
“When Tav got to lift that trophy he deserved it more than anyone because of the tough times he has overcome.
“He is never too high and never too low. He’s calm in the head and always pushes his team mates to give their all.
“When you see guys like that lifting trophies for Rangers .. there’s nobody more deserving.
“I’d love to see him lift another couple this season.
“Allan McGregor is the same. You hear the daft stories and all that stuff is great. But nobody really speaks about his routine - there’s nobody in the club like him. He’s just on it every day.
“A top professional and that’s why he’s still playing at the level he is.
“You go in in the morning, and there were times I thought I’d be first in, but there was Greegsy doing his thing - strengthening, stretches, core stuff. That’s before he goes out to the training ground.
“I don’t see why he can’t go another season. But he will just be thinking about now - and getting another title.”
Stewart - now celebrating another title success with Jamshedpur in India - has been responsible for setting up a new, unofficial, branch of the Rangers supporters club in his Goa base alongside assistant boss Sandy Stewart.
The Ibrox side’s charge to the last 16 of the Europa League has seen them bouncing around his living quarters at 3am on a Friday while the rest of the city sleeps.
Now he’s bracing himself for another late night as Gio van Bronckhorst’s side look to burst through the glass ceiling of the last few seasons and into the land of possibility in the quarter finals.
A 3-0 first leg lead against Red Star Belgrade has them firmly in the driving seat.
And Stewart insists there’s nothing stopping his old club going the whole way and lifting their second European trophy.
He said: “Me and Sandy have been up to three and four in the morning watching the lads.
“We’ve been jumping about the room celebrating goals in the middle of the night while boys are sleeping next to us, so we’ve not been too popular with the other lads!
“In the last four years Rangers have come up against some top teams in Europe.
“No matter the quality of the opposition they always put up a fight and had some really good results. They are always competitive.
“Are they contenders to go all the way? Yes, definitely.
“There are Champions League teams left in there and it’s going to be difficult.
“But not one side will be thinking ‘we will take Rangers’ because they have shown they are a force at this level as well.
“These are games you want to be playing in. You want them to keep coming.
“If Rangers can get that momentum over the next four or five weeks then great things could happen at the end of the season.
“You can’t switch off. You have to recover well and go again in the league because that’s probably more important.
“You gear-up for a 50-60 game season and that’s what these boys have done in recent years.”
