Talks are ongoing with Sevilla's Diego Carlos and Eddie Howe's side are trying to bring Jesse Lingard to St. James' Park before the window slams shut.
Newcastle have a game in hand on Norwich City and can move out of the relegation zone if they pick up three points in their next outing and the Canaries lose to Crystal Palace.
There are still 17 games left for the Magpies to pick up points and there are ten games they should aim to pick up all three points.
The ten fixtures Newcastle should look to realistically win:
- Everton H
- Villa H
- Brentford A
- Brighton H
- Palace H
- Wolves H
- Norwich A
- Burnley A
- Everton A
- Leicester H
All ten of those games present Howe with a realistic chance of three points, with Leicester City proving the most difficult opposition out of those games.
Wins over Burnley and Norwich would pile further pressure on their relegation rivals.
The game against Everton at St James' Park on February 8, also presents a huge opportunity to the Magpies.
The Toffees have parted company with Rafa Benitez and are teetering above the Premier League drop zone.
Newcastle could move to within a point of the Merseyside club with a win.
They still have games against Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal, but any points in those fixtures would be seen as a bonus.
