Want to make your signature scent last longer? Well, according to this $3 perfume trick, all you need is a dab of Vaseline...

We all know the heartbreak of spritzing on your favorite fragrance first thing in the morn, only to discover that by the afternoon, it's all but vanished from your skin. While you can of course hunt down the best long-lasting perfumes—which are blended with perfume notes known to pack a punch—there is actually a simple trick that could lock every precious drop of your best perfume into the skin all day.

So, what is the magical scent-locking hack, you ask? Well, to put it simply...it's Vaseline. It turns out that applying a dollop of $3 petroleum jelly to your skin before spritzing the area with your favorite vanilla perfumes and oud perfumes could be the key to making them last longer...

Does Vaseline make perfume last longer?

We know what you're thinking—can adding Vaseline before perfume actually make it last longer? Well, according to the experts, yes, yes it can!

According to Natalia Ortiz, Chief Commerical Officer at The Fragrance Shop: "Rubbing a small amount of Vaseline on your pulse points before applying your fragrance is one way to add life to your fragrance."

She explains: "the balm will act as an additional moisturizing lock to hold the scent onto the skin," adding that, "perfume smells best and lasts longest when able to meld with the natural oils of your body."

If you don't have a tub of Vaseline on hand, Ortiz recommends using an unscented moisturizer instead: "this will help lock the fragrance in better as it gives a moist skin impression."

Vicken Arslanian, Re-Founder of fragrance brand Commodity, also adds that applying Vaseline before your perfume is a very similar concept to the slugging trend. She says: "Vaseline for fragrance works the same way: locking in a scent and preventing skin from drying out."

Where to apply Vaseline before perfume

So, how do we go about applying Vaseline and perfume together? Ortiz suggests applying Vaseline to your pulse points, which are located on your wrists, elbows, and neck—just to name a few—then simply spray your perfume over the top. These areas will help the scent emanate throughout the day as fragrance reacts to heat.

Beware of your clothing though, as Arslanian notes: "this works best if you can keep fabric and clothing away from the skin as this can obstruct your fragrance's ability to latch onto the skin."

Here's to entering our good-smelling era!
