The 2026 Golden Globes Noms Are Here & Yep, Wicked Just Got Totally Snubbed

Awards season is officially back, which means it’s time for publicists to panic, cinephiles to gloat, and the rest of us to pretend we’ve seen half these films already. The 2026 Golden Globe nominations landed overnight, and while there’s plenty to celebrate, one glaring omission has people talking — Wicked: For Good got the cold shoulder in one of the ceremony’s most coveted categories.

After Wicked: Part One dominated last year’s Globes with six nods (including Best Picture, Musical or Comedy), fans expected the sequel to continue defying gravity. Instead? Nada. The long-awaited finale to the two-part musical juggernaut has been completely locked out of the Best Picture race.

It’s not all bad news in Oz. Both Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande snagged nominations for Best Supporting Actress for Wicked: For Good, proving at least someone in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (or what’s left of it) still believes in their magic. The film managed five nominations overall, including recognition for its original songs written by Stephen Schwartz.

Still, not landing among the Best Picture contenders stings — especially after Universal threw everything (except perhaps the kitchen cauldron) into pushing it for awards glory.

Leading the pack this year is Leonardo DiCaprio’s war epic One Battle After Another, collecting nine nominations including Best Film (Musical or Comedy), Best Director, and several top-line acting nods for Benicio Del ToroSean Penn, and Chase Infiniti.

Behind it are Sentimental Value with eight nominations and Sinners with seven.

Our homegrown icons continue to slay on the international stage. Sarah Snook earned yet another nod, this time for Best Actress in a Limited Series for her turn in All Her Fault which streamed on Binge and filmed partly in Melbourne!

Meanwhile, Jacob Elordi received a nomination for The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Joel Edgerton picked up a well-deserved Best Actor (Drama) mention for Train Dreams.

Not everyone came out smiling. Despite months of buzz, Sydney Sweeney’s boxing biopic Christy failed to land a single nomination — no film recognition, no acting love. Could it have been because Sweeney’s white supremacy jeans ad debacle? Potentially.

In other news, this year marks the first time podcasts are in contention. Heavy-hitters like Armchair Expert with Dax ShepardSmartLess, and Call Her Daddy headline the new category. So if you’ve ever called your Spotify queue “cinema for your ears”, vindication is here.
