The 2024 Golden Globes Were Fun and Filled with Drama, But Not on TV. The Best Was Behind The Scenes.

The 2024 Golden Globes ceremony the public saw on TV was a dud. The consensus was that host Jo Koy was not great (the best part of his performance was when he said good night in Tagalog).

The speeches were mostly uninspired, but there were exceptions: the dancing bit between Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig is now imprinted in TV history, as are Lily Gladstone, Paul Giamatti, Christopher Nolan, and Kieran ("Sorry Pedro, you lost") Culkin, was well as Ayo Edebiri's acceptance speeches.

However, the best of the 81st Golden Globes happened behind the scenes, and we could see it all thanks to social media. Considering it was Hollywood's first big party after the strikes and the official kick-off of Awards Season, and that everybody who is everybody in TV and film was there, including reclusive star Kevin Costner, there was a lot happening.

So we spent hours weeding the feeds to bring you the best of the Golden Globes BTS edition

It was freezing in the red carpet

At around 50F, the stars weren't feeling warm and fuzzy last night. At least not outside. The ladies were cold and had to wrestle with their outfits."Suits" actresses Gina Torres and Sarah Rafferty didn't have it easy.

And Selena Gomez had a Marilyn Monroe moment

but she also gave us so much more.

Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift's gossip

There was more red carpet drama, which we will discuss later because we need to stay on Selena Gomez. The most talked-about moment of the night was her interaction with Taylor Swift during the first commercial break of the ceremony.

Selenita, as we Latino fans call her, ran to her best friend Taylor Swift with some good gossip. The internet sleuths went right on to figure out what they were talking about. The consensus of the digital detectives, including some lip readers, is that she had a VERY uncomfortable experience with Kylie Jenner.

The interaction has gone so viral that even CNN picked it up, and Selena Gomez decided it was enough and lashed back with some strong words: "I did not say shit, I'm sick of y'all, hop off my dick & stop overanalyzing every damn move of me without knowing....This is getting ridiculous. And wrong!"

The feud between the Kardashian-Jenners and their friend Hailey Baldwin seems to live rent-free in many fans brains. But in the internet's defense, Taylor's friend did say, "Timothee?"

Brie Larson 'fangirled' and lost it in front of Jennifer Lopez

Going back to the red carpet, there were many cute moments, but none was better than the sweet encounter between Captain Marvel and our Jenny from the Block. It was beautiful to see Larsen meeting her idol with her eyes brimming with tears, literally freaking out.

"I saw Selena (the movie), and it made me want to be an actor. And you've always meant so much to me," she said of Jennifer Lopez's 1997 film. "Oh my God, don't make me cry," Lopez responded.

Pedro Pascal showed up sharp but injured. He was probably in pain, because the internet Daddy wasn't his usual funny self. When somebody asked him what happened to his arm, he just said "I fell." Pobrecito.

While Pedrito couldn't do much about his sling, other than make it match his outfit, Rosamund Pike went further to try to hide an injury to her face, product of a ski accident.

Then somebody made her hold a Jacob Elordi candle, her co-star in "Saltburn."

It should have been a sign of things to come. Once inside things went down hill for the ceremony, but great for the fans. Besides Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift moment, there was some sweet PDA, more fan behavior and many well deserved eye rolls to the atrocious opening monologue.

The stars weren't amused with Jo Koy, the 2024 Golden Globes host

And there was a "Suits" reunion.

and a "Hunger Games" reunion.

At the carpet there was also a "Mama Mia" reunion.

The trolls came to Tinseltown

Poor Jeremy Allen White won a Golden Globe, his second for "The Bear". Yes Chef!, but nobody wanted to talk about that. It was all about his Calvin Klein underwear campaign. First it was funny, and they it became painful, and will he talk to Rosalía about it? (She was in Spain hanging out with Alejandro Sanz, among others, in case anybody was wondering.)

Kieran Culkin couldn't resist fall into character and gave us some trolling "Succession" style, making it impossible not to lean into missing the Roy family, even if it hurts.

Who won the Golden Globes? Selena Gomez, no doubt

Yes, "Oppenheimer" closed the night with five awards, including Best actor, Best Director and Best Film. VegasInsider.com did some calculations and revealed that a few records were broken.

  • Lily Gladstone ("Killers Of The Flower Moon") became the first indigenous actress to win in the Best Drama Actress category
  • "Oppenheimer" joined 12 other films that have won 5 or more Golden Globes in one
  • Justine Triet and Arthur Harari ("Anatomy Of A Fall") became the first French people to ever win in the screenwriting category at the Golden Globes
  • Ali Wong ("Beef") became the first actress of an Asian descent to win in the Best Limited Series Actress category
  • Succession" equaled the record for most wins in the Best Drama Series category, which had been previously held jointly by "Mad Men" & "X-files" with 3 wins each
  • "Succession" equaled the record of NYPD Blue for the most different actors winning for the same TV series in the Best Drama Actor Category - Kieran Culkin became the third actor to win for "Succession" after Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong

But, our Mexican-American superstar was the one who drop the mic with this photo saying "I won." and she did.
