The 20-year career record David Moyes will be desperate to overcome in West Ham’s Arsenal trip

West Ham United boss David Moyes will be wanting to put an end to an unwanted 20-year record on Boxing Day against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Hammers return to competitive action on Monday after 38 days without an official match, heading to north London to take on a Gunners side who currently sit at the top of the Premier League standings.

Entering that game, Moyes has an unwanted career record that will be aiming to put to bed, with Monday’s clash being his final chance to do so this season, if he stays at West Ham.

Since taking charge of his first Premier League game while in charge of Everton in March 2002, Moyes has an unwanted career record when taking on the four sides formerly known as the “top four” during the mid to late 2000s and early 2010s - Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

In league matches as a manager, Moyes has faced those sides 70 times away from home, recording 0 wins.

Of those 70 games, 49 have ended in defeat, with the other 21 ending in draws from his stints in the top-flight with Everton, Man United, Sunderland and two stints with West Ham.

This season, all three of their trips so far to Chelsea, Liverpool and United have all ended in narrow defeats.

In September, they lost 2-1 to Chelsea but were robbed of a late equaliser after Maxwel Cornet’s goal was harshly disallowed after a lengthy VAR check.

In October, they faced Liverpool and United on the road in quick succession, losing both games 1-0 despite having chances to earn at least a point in both.

It leaves Moyes on 70 career away league games as a manager without winning at either of those four sides, a challenge made harder with as many as six first-team players potentially injured, including both senior strikers Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio.

Arsenal: P18 W0 D4 L14
Chelsea P18 W0 D7 L11
Liverpool P18 W0 D6 L12
Manchester United P16 W0 D4 L12
